Robe à l'anglaise

Period: around 1780

For the Potsdam Castle Night in Sanssouci park, this robe à l'anglaise was designed.

It is made of a cotton print in the pattern and colors of the late 18th century with stylized flowers and birds. The center back is continuously cut without waist seam, the remaining skirt part was attached to the stiffened bodice in very small pleats. It is closed inconspicuously with hooks and eyes in the front.

The underskirt is made of delicately embroidered cotton batiste. Hip roll and corset create the typical silhouette.
The skirt can be pulled up by means of ribbons, so that one can walk carefree through the park, in other words, it can be worn "à la polonaise".  Very nice and practical to this the fichu.
